We would like to share our plans with Outlaw fans in light of the recent announcement that there may be a new band in 2010 with the same name.
There are two surviving members of the original Outlaws, Monte, and myself. When we decided to carry on together after Hughie’s death it was a decision that came with risk, challenge, and uncertainty. We surrounded ourselves with uniquely talented people that fit the personality of the band, and those that had an emotional connection to the band’s past. We invested a good deal of time and effort attending to details that defined the Outlaws music as well as the respect due these great songs.
From the first show it was clear that the fans of this band shared our enthusiasm and sincerity. In the last two years we have grown as a band and have invested much in preparing the Outlaws to grow in popularity. This included redesigning the band’s website, updating the merchandise, faithfully delivering the band’s signature songs to the fans and over the last year writing a new collection of future classic songs for a new studio album. This is part of our effort to bring the Outlaws into the current music-space and celebrate the Outlaws rightful place in the history of classic rock.
Now with this recent announcement we are faced with a new set of challenges.
Let me go on record and say we believe we have the right to be the Outlaws. We feel we’ve done an honorable job sustaining this band’s music, and lived up to our obligations to the fans and the people who are gone now but created this band with us. This is how we make our living but trust me when I say it’s not about the money!! If we are forced to change this band’s name we will continue on under the name the “Henry Paul Band”. We will play all the music from our current set list as well as continue to add new music. We intend to follow through with all our music and film projects and work to bring long-term legitimacy to this great band regardless of its name.
Sincerely,
Henry Paul & Monte Yoho
